Metro-North Could Be Merged Into T-Rex

(New York, NY) -- A proposed plan to merge Metro-North, the Long Island Railroad and New Jersey Transit is being released today.

It would merge the rail lines into one big system called the Trans-Regional Express, or T-REX for short, at a cost of 70-billion-dollars over 30 years. The proposal by the influential Regional Plan Association would bring crosstown rail service from New Jersey all the way to Long Island.

It would involve 60 new stations and more than 200 new or reactivated track miles, but the RPA says T-REX is vital to supporting growth and access to jobs in the Tristate area.
