(New York, NY) -- A Hyperloop that could transport passengers from New York City to Washington in just 29 minutes is one step closer to reality.
The DC Department of Transportation has given Elon Musk's Boring Company a permit to do preliminary excavation work at an abandoned parking lot in the city. The Internet was on fire last summer when the electric car billionaire tweeted that he'd gotten "verbal government approval" to build an underground tunnel linking New York to Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia. Exactly what's involved is shrouded in mystery but the company says riders would board the Hyperloop on levitating pods.
