Boat Explodes On Hudson River

A boat went up in flames yesterday after an explosion at the Brass Anchor on the Hudson River in Hyde Park.

Fairview Firefighters responded at about 1:09pm and found the boat fully involved in fire in the dock area.  The boat’s occupants had escaped the explosion with minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

The City of Poughkeepsie’s marine unit assisted Fairview in battling the blaze and booms were set up in the river to contain any fuel that may have spilled.

“In addition to the City of Poughkeepsie and Mobile Life Support Services, assisting the Fairview Fire District at the scene was the Dutchess County Sheriffs Office, Ulster County Sheriffs Office, Hyde Park Police Department, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, and NYS DEC Spill Response.  The Roosevelt Fire District relocated to the Fairview Fire Station for stand-by.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.   Fairview personnel and equipment left the scene at 4:33 pm.  There were no injuries to fire personnel.”
